We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails — by Dolly Parton.

Change is often misunderstood as a demand to completely change who we are, but I think it’s more about adapting rather than transforming. Adapting means evolving our approach, mindset, and strategies to handle new situations while staying true to our core values and identity.

When faced with change, the goal isn’t necessarily to become a different person but to adjust our behavior and thinking to fit new situations. For example, adapting to a new job might involve learning new skills and adopting different workflows, but it doesn’t mean abandoning the principles or qualities that define us. Similarly, any relationship demands many adjustments and adaptations. But if the focus is on changing each other, no one will be contended in this relationship.

This perspective highlights that change doesn’t require us to lose ourselves in the process. Instead, it’s about enhancing our ability to thrive in evolving contexts without sacrificing who we are. Embracing change in this manner can promote growth and resilience, enabling us to confront challenges directly while remaining true to ourselves.
